The Legacy Audio Silhouette Center On-Wall at $3,500 solves one of the most common home theater compromises: the undersized center channel. In rooms where a large center channel like the Marquis or Element XD won't fit (above a flat-panel TV, below a wall-mounted display, or in a cabinet opening with limited depth), the Silhouette Center delivers articulate, full-bodied dialogue in an enclosure just 4.5 inches deep.
The wide-format design at 39.66 inches across is sized to match 55-65 inch displays visually. A 4-inch AMT folded ribbon tweeter anchors the center of the driver array, flanked by dual 7-inch graphene-filled carbon fiber midwoofers. Dual 8-inch mass-loaded passive radiators provide low-frequency support down to 55Hz without the port noise that would be particularly objectionable at close range from a wall-mounted speaker.
The Silhouette Center is designed to pair with the Silhouette On-Wall surrounds, creating a complete on-wall home theater system with consistent tonal character across all channels. The shared 4-inch AMT tweeter and carbon fiber driver technology ensure that sounds panning across the front soundstage and into the surround channels maintain their tonal integrity, a critical quality that's lost when different speaker models or brands are mixed in a surround system.
At 92 dB sensitivity, the Silhouette Center matches the efficiency of its surround-channel sibling, which means a single amplifier or receiver driving the entire system will produce consistent volume levels across all channels without requiring extensive level calibration.
The 52-pound weight and French cleat mounting hardware ensure secure wall installation. Professional mounting is recommended, and Dave includes installation as part of every Silhouette system purchase.
Many homes have media wall installations where the TV is wall-mounted and the equipment is hidden in an adjacent closet or built-in cabinet. In these installations, a traditional center channel sitting on a shelf below the TV looks awkward and often blocks the screen's lower edge. The Silhouette Center mounts directly to the wall below or above the display, maintaining the clean architectural lines of a custom media wall while delivering dialogue quality that justifies the investment in the rest of the system.
The Silhouette Center's passive radiator design is particularly important in these close-to-wall installations. Ported center channels placed near a wall surface can produce boomy, colored bass as the port output reflects off the wall behind the speaker. The Silhouette Center's sealed-radiator design eliminates this problem entirely, producing clean, controlled low-frequency output regardless of proximity to the wall.
