The Signature XD is the powered counterpart to the Signature SE, adding 650 watts of internal ICEpower amplification for the sealed dual 10-inch woofer section. The five-driver, four-way system features a dual Air Motion Tweeter array (1-inch super tweeter and 4-inch AMT), a 7-inch graphene-filled carbon fiber midrange, and dual 10-inch spun aluminum woofers in a sealed enclosure. The slim tower profile occupies approximately one square foot of floor space while delivering bass extension to 22Hz.

The Legacy Audio Signature XD at $14,500 per pair takes the beloved Signature platform and transforms it with 650 watts of internal amplification, a dual AMT tweeter array, and a four-way crossover network. If the Signature SE is Legacy's gateway speaker, the Signature XD is what happens when that gateway leads to something extraordinary.
The XD designation in Legacy's lineup always means powered bass: internal amplification handling the frequencies that demand the most power, freeing your external amplifier to focus exclusively on the midrange and treble where its sonic character matters most. In the Signature XD, this means dual 10-inch aluminum woofers driven by 650 watts of dedicated amplification, producing bass response down to 22Hz with the authority and control that passive designs struggle to match.
Where the Signature SE uses a single 4-inch AMT tweeter, the Signature XD adds a 1-inch super tweeter in a coaxial arrangement that extends the high-frequency response to 40kHz. This dual AMT configuration is borrowed directly from Legacy's statement-level products: the Aeris XD, Focus XD, and Valor all use similar dual AMT arrays.
The super tweeter isn't about reproducing frequencies above human hearing. It's about preserving the time-domain accuracy and harmonic integrity of music in the audible range. The overtones and transient information that gives instruments their unique character extends well above 20kHz, and the super tweeter ensures these harmonics are reproduced accurately rather than truncated by the physical limitations of a single driver.
At 97 dB sensitivity for the passive section, the Signature XD needs remarkably little external amplification. Your amplifier only drives the midrange and tweeter array, and the speaker's efficiency means clean, effortless sound from amplifiers starting at 15-20 watts. This opens up the world of boutique tube amplifiers, single-ended triode designs, and characterful low-powered solid-state amps that would struggle with less efficient speakers.
Standing 48 inches tall and just 12 inches wide, the Signature XD has one of the slimmest profiles in Legacy's powered lineup. The narrow front baffle reduces edge diffraction (the tendency for sound waves to wrap around the speaker's edges and create coloration), resulting in cleaner imaging and a more spacious soundstage.
The slim profile also makes the Signature XD one of the more living-room-friendly speakers in the powered Legacy range. It doesn't demand a dedicated listening room. It works in living rooms, family rooms, and multipurpose spaces where a speaker needs to sound extraordinary without looking imposing.
Despite the compact footprint, each Signature XD weighs 106 pounds. That mass comes from the heavy-duty cabinet construction, the internal amplifier modules, the dual woofers, and the extensive internal bracing that keeps the enclosure resonance-free. This is a serious speaker disguised as a room-friendly one.
Because the Signature XD is a powered speaker with DSP crossover management, Dave provides personal installation with every purchase. This isn't just delivery; it's calibration. The internal DSP is adjusted on-site to match your room's specific acoustic characteristics, optimizing bass level, crossover behavior, and phase alignment for your listening position.
The Signature XD ships from Legacy Audio's factory in Springfield, Illinois with a typical lead time of 8-12 weeks. Custom finishes are available across Legacy's full range of hardwood, lacquer, and exotic options. Dave coordinates all logistics and scheduling, and the installation includes a thorough demonstration of the system's capabilities and care requirements.
