The Focus SE is Legacy's reference standard in passive full-range floorstanding speakers. It shares the same six-driver, four-way complement as the Focus XD: a dual Air Motion Tweeter system (1-inch super tweeter and 4-inch AMT), dual 7-inch graphene-filled carbon fiber midwoofers, and dual 12-inch bass drivers. Without internal amplification, it requires external power but rewards with effortless full-range performance from 18Hz to 30kHz. Designed for recording studios, mastering applications, and high-end home listening.

The Legacy Audio Focus SE has been a cornerstone of the Legacy lineup for decades. In its current Special Edition form at $6,950 per pair, it represents the distilled essence of what Legacy Audio does best: build full-range loudspeakers with genuine bass authority, musical midrange, and high-frequency detail that makes recorded music come alive.
The Focus SE is a fully passive loudspeaker with no internal amplification, no DSP, no digital processing. It's a traditional audiophile speaker in the best sense of the word: connect it to a quality amplifier, position it well in your room, and it rewards you with honest, engaging, musically satisfying sound.
The Focus SE uses a four-driver, three-way design topped by Legacy's signature 4-inch Air Motion Transformer tweeter. The AMT's folded-ribbon diaphragm moves air five times faster than a conventional dome tweeter, producing treble with a speed and transparency that is immediately noticeable: cymbals shimmer rather than splash, vocal sibilance is detailed rather than harsh, and high-frequency transients have the snap and decay of live instruments.
The 7-inch midrange driver is optimized for the frequencies where human hearing is most discriminating. Vocals, acoustic instruments, and the harmonic complexity of orchestral music are reproduced with a natural warmth and presence that makes long listening sessions effortless.
Bass comes from dual 10-inch woofers in a ported enclosure. The Focus SE reaches down to 24Hz at -2dB, genuine deep bass from a passive speaker. A well-designed ported cabinet and high-excursion drivers deliver the kind of low-frequency authority that most bookshelf speakers and many competing floorstanding speakers simply cannot match.
Because the Focus SE is fully passive, it lets the character of your amplifier shine through. Tube amplifier enthusiasts particularly love the Focus SE because its 93 dB sensitivity means it produces satisfying volume levels with relatively modest power. A 30-watt tube integrated amplifier will drive the Focus SE to generous listening levels in most rooms.
For solid-state amplifier owners, the Focus SE's 4-ohm nominal impedance presents a manageable load that most quality amplifiers handle without strain. The speaker's impedance curve is well-behaved without severe dips that would stress amplifier output stages.
The Focus SE is also an excellent choice for vinyl enthusiasts. Its dynamic range and low-level detail retrieval make it a natural partner for turntable-based systems, revealing the musical information pressed into the grooves without the clinical precision that can make digital sources sound fatiguing.
Standing approximately 50 inches tall with a moderate footprint, the Focus SE integrates into living spaces with grace. The cabinet design is clean and architectural, available in Legacy's full range of hardwood finishes. Many owners place them in living rooms, studies, and bedroom systems where they serve as both audio equipment and furniture.
Dave recommends the Focus SE for rooms between 150 and 450 square feet. In smaller rooms, the dual woofers provide ample bass without supplemental subwoofers. In larger rooms, a pair of quality subwoofers can extend the system's low-frequency reach while the Focus SE handles everything from the midbass up with authority.
Experience It First
Every room is different. Dave will bring the Focus SE to your home, set it up, and let you hear the difference for yourself. No pressure, no obligation, just great sound.
