The Aeris XD is Legacy's second most powerful floorstanding speaker. Each tower features a six-driver, 4.5-way system: a dual Air Motion Tweeter array (1-inch super tweeter plus 4-inch AMT), an 8-inch titanium-encrusted midrange, a 10-inch midbass, dual 12-inch subwoofers, and a 10-inch mass-loaded passive radiator. Twin 700-watt internal amplifier modules power the bass section while a 24-bit DSP processor handles crossover functions. Only 15 watts of external amplification is needed for the upper frequency section.

The Legacy Audio Aeris XD occupies a unique position in the high-end loudspeaker world. At $30,000 per pair, it delivers performance that approaches the $100,000 Valor System in a form factor that works in a wider variety of rooms and living spaces. For many serious listeners, the Aeris XD represents the sweet spot where reference-grade engineering meets real-world room compatibility.
Each Aeris XD tower houses a six-driver, 4.5-way system that spans from 18Hz to 30kHz. The upper frequencies are handled by a dual Air Motion Transformer array, a combination of Legacy's signature 4-inch AMT and a 1-inch super tweeter that provides the extended high-frequency air and harmonic detail that defines the Legacy sound. An 8-inch titanium-encrusted midrange driver delivers vocals and instruments with the body and presence that smaller drivers can't match.
The bass section is where the Aeris XD truly distinguishes itself from conventional floor-standing speakers. Dual 12-inch subwoofers powered by twin 700-watt internal amplifier modules deliver deep, controlled bass down to 18Hz. A 10-inch mass-loaded passive radiator extends the low-frequency response further while maintaining cabinet compactness. The internal 24-bit DSP processor handles crossover functions between the powered bass section and the passive upper frequencies.
One of the Aeris XD's most compelling features is its remarkably low external amplification requirement. The internal amplifiers handle all bass duties, the frequencies that demand the most power. Your external amplifier only needs to drive the midrange and tweeter sections, which means as little as 15 watts of external amplification will produce room-filling sound at reference levels.
This isn't a theoretical specification. In practice, it means the Aeris XD pairs beautifully with low-powered tube amplifiers, single-ended triode designs, and boutique solid-state amplifiers that might struggle to drive conventional full-range speakers. A 25-watt SET amplifier driving the Aeris XD will produce the kind of full-range, full-authority sound that typically requires hundreds of watts with passive speakers.
The practical implication is significant: the Aeris XD lets you choose your external amplifier based on its sonic character rather than its power output. If you love the musicality of a 15-watt tube amp but need full-range performance in a large room, the Aeris XD makes that combination possible.
The Aeris XD is designed for real rooms in real homes. At roughly 58 inches tall and 16 inches wide, it's a substantial presence without overwhelming a living space. The hardwood cabinet work is furniture-grade, available in finishes ranging from natural oak and walnut to high-gloss black and exotic veneers.
The 24-bit DSP crossover allows for precise tuning of the bass section to match your room's acoustic characteristics. Bass level, crossover frequency, and phase can be adjusted to compensate for room placement constraints: closer to walls, in corners, or in open floor plan configurations. This flexibility means the Aeris XD can sound its best regardless of where in the room it needs to live.
Legacy's engineers designed the Aeris XD's radiation pattern to work in rooms of varying sizes. The controlled dispersion of the AMT tweeter array minimizes early reflections from side walls, which means the speaker maintains its imaging precision even in rooms without acoustic treatment. Of course, treatment helps, but the Aeris XD doesn't demand it to sound exceptional.
The Aeris name has a long history in the Legacy Audio lineup. The original Aeris was one of the first high-end loudspeakers to integrate powered subwoofers with a DSP crossover into a single cabinet. The XD version represents the latest evolution of that concept: refined drivers, more powerful internal amplification, and a more sophisticated DSP engine.
What makes the Aeris XD special isn't any single technology. It's the integration. Every driver, every crossover point, every amplifier module was designed as part of a unified system. There are no aftermarket subwoofer modules bolted into a passive speaker cabinet. The internal amplifiers were specified for these exact drivers in this exact cabinet volume with this exact crossover topology. The result is coherence: the sense that all the drivers are speaking with one voice.
For listeners upgrading from excellent passive speakers in the $10,000-$15,000 range, the Aeris XD represents a transformative step. The integrated bass system eliminates the common problem of subwoofer integration: matching level, phase, and crossover frequency between separate subs and main speakers. The Aeris XD does all of that internally, seamlessly, and with a precision that external subwoofer systems rarely achieve.
Every Aeris XD purchase through In Depth Audio includes Dave's personal attention from selection through installation. Dave will evaluate your room, recommend optimal speaker placement, and handle the delivery and setup process himself. The internal DSP is calibrated on-site to match your room's specific acoustic characteristics.
The Aeris XD ships from Legacy Audio's factory in Springfield, Illinois. Lead time is typically 10-14 weeks depending on the finish selected. Custom finishes are available and may extend the timeline. Dave coordinates all logistics and scheduling to ensure a seamless delivery experience.
